How to know if your passwords have been leaked on the Internet

It is increasingly common for large companies to experience massive data leaks from their users, and seeing how cyber threats are evolving does not appear to be changing. That’s why today we’re going to teach you how to check if your passwords have leaked on the Internet.

We will do this by checking each of your emails to see if it has been included in some of the databases that have been leaked to the network. In this way not only protect the account that has leaked itself so that no one will steal it, but the rest of accounts in which you repeat your email or password.

Why is it important to check it?

It is very common for many users to repeat the same password over and over again. So, if for example your yahoo mail has been filtered or the one you use in any other service and the password you use to enter, any attacker could use this same email and / or password to not only steal the filtered account, but to try to access other services that have not been filtered but in which you could use the same data to enter.

That is why, if you have leaked a credential that you can repeat, it is important to know. In this way you will not only be able to know if you must immediately change the password of a specific service in which it has been filtered, but also you know that you must change the passwords of all those webs in which you use the same one that has been filtered.

To check if the account of any of the pages in which you are registered has been filtered you just have to log in to haveibeenpwned. It is a portal that collects the databases that are filtered in the network, and that accumulates a whopping 3,808,893,616 filtered accounts.

The operation of this web is simple, since it is presented in search engine mode. The first thing you have to do is to enter the website, where you will see a text box. In it you have to write the email you want to check, and the page will tell you if there is any account linked to it that has been exposed.

If when you write an email you get the screen under the search in green means that your email has not appeared in any of the massive leaks that the web has collected, and that therefore you are not immediately exposed to be robbed the account.

But if what appears is the red color you will be in trouble because your password has been filtered. Then, the page will tell you how many massive leaks your email appears, and just below you will see a list with all the pages in which your registration data have been exposed. Therefore, you will only have to enter each site in the list and change the password.

It is important that you change the password even for pages that you do not use and leave the list. Remember that you may be using the same password on other pages that have not been filtered, and therefore someone with bad intentions could try to use it on them.
